Why is Premier Service using PayPal?

We found the following benefits to PayPal:

  • Money is transferred from our PayPal account to yours within seconds
  • No more delayed cheques in the mail (and we know there are lots!)
  • No more printing, stuffing, stamping, sorting and mailing at our end
  • It’s way better for the environment
  • No more "RETURN TO SENDER" cheques each month
  • No more paycheques that are lost in the mail
  • No more running to the bank to deposit your cheque
  • You will have a record of all your money from us (no more E-mails asking us to provide you an account of what you have received over the year...)

It’s simply the way to go. We live in an electronic age. As a mystery shopper, you know this better than anyone does.

Is it safe? I don’t like dealing with money over the Internet!

It is safe.

Millions upon millions of electronic transactions are done over the Internet each day.

Bell, Hydro, magazines, world-class retail stores, and every major credit card and bank accepts, and encourages with Internet transactions.

Of course, one must always be careful to whom they are providing their banking or credit card information. That is why we trust PayPal. It is becoming the North American ‘standard’ for sending and receiving money.

PayPal uses 128-bit SSL technology to keep your information safe. No one (including Premier Service) will ever see your sensitive financial information like your credit card or bank account number.

I heard PayPal takes a percentage off my cheque. Is this true?

No, it is not. With PayPal, there is no charge for receiving money. If we send you $200.00 from our PayPal account to yours, then you will have $200.00 in your PayPal account a few seconds later. Period. This applies to all Personal Accounts. If you sign up for a "Premier/Business" account, then there are fees attached. So do not sign up for a Premier/Business Account.

For Canadian shoppers, there is a fifty-cent fee that you will incur if you transfer money from your PayPal account to your bank account.

Therefore, you may want to leave some money in your PayPal account, or wait until other companies pay you, too, and group money together before you transfer it out. Also, you may wish to leave the money in your PayPal account, which you can use to pay others (merchants, children away at school, eBay items, etc.), too. You can even buy eBay Gift Certificates! (PayPal is owned by eBay)

In the USA, the Federal Reserve does not charge for these sorts of transactions. In Canada, there is a charge. A PayPal representative said that they are lobbying to remove this fee.

My friend used PayPal, and I know there are fees! Someone sent him $45.00, and he ended up with $42.50!

This is because the sender probably used his or her credit card to send you money. If we were to send you money from our credit card, you would incur the fee. We will not do this. In addition, your friend’s account was probably a PayPal Premier/Business account. Therefore, sign up with a personal account.

I don’t have a PayPal account. How do I sign up for one?

The process takes about five minutes.

  1. Go to www.paypal.com, and sign up.
  2. You will be asked for your E-mail address and other coordinates.
  3. You will be given the option to link a credit card to your account (for when you send money).
  4. You may do this, or you may hit Cancel. It’s your choice.
  5. You will then be sent an E-mail from PayPal for confirmation purposes.
  6. Click on the E-mail, and that’s it. Your account is set up.

If we then send you money, you will receive it in your account!

I don’t want my money sitting in my PayPal account… How do I link it to my bank account?

This is also a simple process.

Simply click 'add a bank account'!

Have a cheque or your banking information in front of you. All you then have to do is type in four things in the boxes: Bank Name, Transit, Institution Number, Account Number.

That’s it!

To confirm that you entered the proper information, and that you are legit, PayPal will make two small deposits into your account (yes, you can keep the money!)

Wait a day or two, and you can then call your bank to find out what the amounts are. The more tech-savvy of you can check your on-line banking statement, or if you are not in a rush, you can wait for your monthly statement.

When you next visit PayPal, you just have to type in the amounts of the two deposits. This is PayPal’s way of verifying that it is really you.

Rest assured, though, that regardless of how long this process takes, your money is still there. If we paid you $50.00, then the $50.00 will be sitting there.

According to PayPal, the transfer could take a few days.

Why is this process so complicated?

The signup process only happens once. And it is much easier and simpler than filling out any of our mystery shopping forms.

I want to still shop for you but there is no way I will give out my bank account number. What are my options?

You do not have to give out your bank account number if you do not wish to transfer money to your bank account. You may just keep the money in your PayPal account (it is as good as cash), and use it for PayPal purchases.

You can use the money for any eBay transaction. You can use it to send someone else money. Or you can use it at the over 42,000 websites that accept PayPal.

We do not want to make you nervous about giving out your bank account number. The representatives at PayPal informed us that many people choose this option, and leave the money in the account.

I (my spouse, etc.) already has a PayPal account under a different E-mail address. Can you send money to that account?

Absolutely. You will find a place on our application to include an E-mail address for PayPal purposes.

Can I withdraw any amount to my bank account? Will PayPal let me withdraw $5.00 at a time?

In the US, the minimum withdrawal is $10.00. In Canada, it’s $15.00.

For US shoppers, this presents absolutely no problem, since we never pay less than $10.00

For Canadian shoppers, this poses a small problem, but there are options! There are a few of you who have done only one shop during a pay period. This means that you may be paid less than $15.00

So here is what to do if, for example, we send you $13.00:

  • You can leave the money in there until your next pay, and take it all out at once (remember, the money is yours once it is in your PayPal account. The money is not ours
  • You can transfer $2.00 into your account (free of charge), and then pull out the entire $15.00
  • You can buy things (on eBay, etc.) or pay someone using PayPal and never actually pull it out
  • You can close your account! (This would be a little silly, but it will get you your money!)

Now that the exchange rate between US and Canadian dollars is becoming closer to par, we hope that PayPal will reduce this $15.00 limit, thus making it easier for us Canadians.
